Combined Pathology Blood form (Yellow/Black or Blue for GP's)
Blood Transfusion form (Pink)

Availability

Analysed by referral laboratory if specific criteria met. (NBS Colindale)

Specific Criteria

Antibody must be present.

Turnaround Time

3-7 days

Plasma / Whole Blood

Volume

2 x 6ml

Container

2x Purple top (EDTA) 6ml tube.

Collection

Samples should be transported to laboratory immediately.

Lab. Handling

Samples should be posted as soon as possible

Causes for Rejection

Unlabelled or incorrectly labelled or insufficient patient identifiers sample. Not meeting specific criteria for analysis. Delay in sample reaching laboratory.  Insufficient sample volume. Poor sample quality due to deterioration, haemolysis, presence of clot.

Limitations

 

Insufficient sample quanatity. Sub detectable antibody.
