Clinical Indications

Serum Beta-2 Microglobulin (B2M) is useful for prognosis and monitoring of lymphoproliferative disease such as multiple myeloma, although levels are non-specific with regards to tumour type and severity of disease.

Causes for Rejection

Not meeting specific criteria for analysis.

Reference Range and Interpretation

Adult reference range: 1.2 - 2.4 mg/L
Levels below 4.0 mg/L at presentation reflect best prognosis, whereas levels above 20.0 mg/L reflect worst prognosis.

Lab. Handling

Processing: Aliquot (MPA) and store at 4C in separating fridge (CB39). Referral:  B2M and send in the transport box or NOB2M and save in separating freezer (CB40) at -20C, saved frozen rack.
