Combined Pathology Blood form (Yellow/Black or Blue for GP's)

Availability

Only performed if approved by Consultant Haematologist. Analysed by referral laboratory if specific criteria met. NOTE if full thrombophilia screen is required refer to Thrombophilia screen.

if FVL only is required 2 x Blue topped (sodium citrate) tubes.
              
   EDTA is also acceptable
                
Please supply Extra samples for FBC & Coagulation screen, if these are also required.             

Lab. Handling

 Samples should be posted as soon as possible (stable if refrigerated for up to 5 days) or samples double spun and decanted buffy coat frozen( x 2 buffy coat). Do not send samples to referral lab on Fridays or over BH weekends

Causes for Rejection

Unlabelled / inadequately labelled sample. Insufficient sample.
Not meeting specific criteria for analysis. 

Limitations

  Samples for Factor V Leiden screening must not have been used for any other tests initially (FBC / Coagulation screens initially)
