Serum Folate: On request.
Red Cell Folate: Refer to Consultant Haematologist

Must be on initial request and cannot be added on later.

Limitations

 

Samples should not be taken from patients receiving therapy with high Biotin doses (>5mg/day) until at least 8 hours following last biotin administration.

Causes for Rejection

Unlabelled or incorrectly labelled or insufficient patient identifiers sample. Not meeting specific criteria for analysis. Delay in sample reaching laboratory.  Insufficient sample volume. Poor sample quality due to deterioration, haemolysis.

Reference Range

Greater than 4.6 ug/L. Reference: Roche method insert

Interpretation

 

Results should be treated on a case by case basis and should be assessed in conjunction with patient's medical history, clinical examinations and other findings

Lab. Handling   Processing: Analysed from primary tube and stored at 4C in the cold room (CB23) in Clinical Biochemistry.
